Valmet and Estonian Cell Extend Service Agreement for Kunda Pulp Mill
Valmet, a leading supplier of process technologies, automation, and services to the pulp, paper, and energy industries, has signed an extension of the service agreement with AS Estonian Cell’s aspen pulp mill in Kunda, Estonia. The agreement between the two companies has been extended for an additional five years, aimed at improving the mill’s production availability and efficiency.
Continuous Collaboration to Enhance Efficiency
Under the terms of the service agreement, Valmet will provide continuous collaboration on spare parts, process evaluations, and condition assessment of the mechanical equipment. Yearly shutdowns of the fiber line and baling line will also be covered under the agreement.
AS Estonian Cell produces 190,000 tons of aspen pulp annually, which is used in the production of printing paper, cardboard, tissue paper, and special-use paper. The company’s innovative technology allows for environmentally friendly production, such as sulfur-free production, chlorine-free bleaching, low water use, and a high wood yield.
Rain Pärn, the CTO of AS Estonian Cell, stated, “We are happy to continue our partnership with Valmet. With support from Valmet, we continue to develop our processes to increase the production availability and efficiency.”

Valmet’s Orders Received in Q1 2023
The order extension is included in Valmet’s orders received in the first quarter of 2023, but the value of the order will not be disclosed.
AS Estonian Cell is a Kunda-based aspen pulp mill, owned by the Austrian Heinzel Group. The company employs around 100 people.
