OSV Awards O’Shaughnessy Fellowships to Two Ambitious Projects with Global Impact

Greenwich-based investment firm, O’Shaughnessy Ventures LLC (“OSV”), has awarded O’Shaughnessy Fellowships to Dr. Alice Evans and Tony Morley. The fellowship program is designed for ambitious individuals who wish to build something great. Both Dr. Evans and Mr. Morley were awarded a $100,000 equity-free grant to fund their respective projects that have potentially enormous social impacts.

Dr. Alice Evans and Tony Morley are working on two distinct projects that will have global impacts. Dr. Evans is writing the first-ever global history of gender, while Tony Morley is funding research, communication, and innovation in progress studies.

The O’Shaughnessy Fellowships have been awarded to only two fellows so far, with ten more fellowships to be awarded before the end of the year. The fellowship program launched on January 1, 2023, and is designed to provide financial support and partner with creators to grow their life-changing creative ideas.

“We’re delighted to award O’Shaughnessy Fellowships to Dr. Alice and Tony. Both of their projects have a potentially enormous social impact, and OSV will be doing everything we can to help them unleash this potential. I can’t wait to see how the projects develop over the coming 12 months,” said Jim O’Shaughnessy, OSV’s founder, and CEO.

The Great Gender Divergence

Dr. Alice Evans is a Senior Lecturer at King’s College London and Visiting Associate Professor at Yale. She has been awarded the fellowship grant to write “The Great Gender Divergence,” the first-ever global history of gender. The book will explain how the world became more gender equal and why some countries are more gender equal than others.

The book will require Dr. Evans to study the history of every country globally and undertake qualitative research in six continents. It is set to be published by Princeton University Press. The fellowship grant will make her ambitions more achievable.

“The Great Gender Divergence is the most fundamental fact about humanity that existing research cannot explain. To understand the drivers of gender equality and global heterogeneity, we need to study the history of every single country globally. The O’Shaughnessy Fellowship makes my ambitions more achievable, and I am extremely grateful,” said Dr. Evans.

Unleashing Progress

Tony Morley is a progress studies writer, and he has been awarded the fellowship grant to fund research, communication, and innovation in progress studies. His work focuses on historical trends in global living standards and the forces that drive human progress.

Mr. Morley’s written work has appeared in TIME, Big Think, Freethink, The Progress Network, and HumanProgress.org, among others. He is also working on “Human Progress for Beginners,” the world’s first children’s book on progress, scheduled to be published with Pantera Press in Q4 of 2023.

The fellowship grant provides Mr. Morley with an unprecedented opportunity to dedicate all his time to research and communications in progress studies.

“Participating in the OSV Fellowship over the coming year will provide an unprecedented opportunity to park the vicissitudes of the daily grind and dedicate all my time to research and communications in progress studies. I couldn’t be more honored or more grateful for having been selected to undertake the OSV Fellowship and for the incredible support of the progress studies community. Here’s to the following year, a year to tell some of the greatest stories of human progress and, hopefully, to inspire a better future,” said Mr. Morley.
