Noragami – An Anime Worth Watching

Noragami is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Adachitoka. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Monthly Shōnen Magazine in January 2011’s issue. The story follows Yato, a minor deity who interacts with humans, and Yukine, a human weapon that can be used by gods.

Yato is a minor deity who doesn’t even have his own shrine. In order to become popular and gain recognition, he charges five yen to grant people’s wishes. However, one day he meets Hiyori Iki, a girl who can see spirits. Hiyori is brought into the world of gods and begins helping Yato out with his job. However, when Hiyori is involved in an accident that should have killed her, she instead becomes a half-phantom who floats out of her body at random. As Yato tries to find a way to return Hiyori to normal, he becomes involved in a battle between the gods and the underworld forces that are trying to claim her soul.

The story of Noragami is compelling and full of action-, Romance-, Comedy-, Drama-, and Supernatural elements. The characters are likable and relatable, particularly Hiyori whose problems are easy to empathize with. The artwork is beautiful and stylish, particularly the character designs which are both unique and eye-catching. The animation is fluid and well done, particularly during the action scenes.
